HISTORIC IMPRESSIONS
The house: Circa 1926-Hugo J. Strandberg

This brick Dutch Colonial structure was built in 1926 by local contractor Magnus Strandberg, for his brother Hugo and his wife Signa. Strandberg would later build the house at 1052 Glenwood. The two houses share a common driveway to this day. In the 1970’s, a family room and half bath were added on the house.

Jim and Joy Lukancic and their two children Joseph and Sydney have lived in this house for four years. While making the house their own, the Lukancic’s have kept the original centrally-placed entry door, original woodwork on the first floor and the staircase, as well as the original fireplace in the living room. The dining room and living room also feature the original windows.

Recent projects include a completely remodeled upstairs bathroom, replacement of a back staircase, new flooring, and new windows in all of the bedrooms. French doors have also been installed in the family room.

As a lifelong Cathedral Area resident, Joy has a deep appreciation for the neighborhood and for the unique features that give old homes their character, such as the double staircase in this house. As you tour the home, you will notice that Jim, who serves as a City of Joliet firefighter, displays some of the family’s collection of firefighter memorabilia in the kitchen area.
