Joliet
Neighborhood Group Honors Local
Family for its Preservation Efforts
The Cathedral Area Preservation
Association (CAPA) will present its 4th Annual Local Historic
Preservation Award to Ken and Carol Pritz at the May 7th
Joliet City Council meeting by the CAPA Board of Directors.
The Preservation Award
honors individuals and institutions that have played an
outstanding role in preservation projects, either by actually
doing the projects, being an advocate for them or setting
public policy to facilitate preservation.
According to CAPA President,
Kurt Schackmuth, the Pritz family is very deserving of this
honor. "The Pritz family is to be commended for the outstanding
work that they have done to restore and preserve the Jacob
Henry Mansion and for their consistent efforts to make the
city of Joliet a more preservation-minded community." The
CAPA Board of Directors cited several reasons why the Pritz
family will be presented with this award:
¥ The purchase and renovation
of the Jacob Henry Mansion almost 20 years ago when it was
a significant risk to attempt such an ambitious and comprehensive
restoration of the structure.
¥ The successful use of
the Jacob Henry Mansion as both a banquet facility and a
beautiful example of historic preservation at it's best.
¥ The extraordinary foresight exhibited by Ken Pritz in
the 1970's for his advocacy of down-zoning in the Cathedral
Area.
¥ The Pritz family's unwavering
commitment to down-zoning in the Cathedral Area, where they
have lived for over 30 years.
¥ Their generous and dedicated
leadership in the City of Joliet business community and
their involvement in and support of the Cathedral Area Preservation
Association.
The CAPA Local Preservation
Award was created in 1999 as part of CAPA's support of National
Preservation Week which is sponsored each May by the National
Trust for Historic Preservation. National Preservation Week
is May 12-18, 2002. Past recipients include Barb Newberg,
City Planner for the City of Joliet, Russ + Carlson Architecture
and Mayor Arthur Schultz and the City of Joliet.
